Ms. California Carrie Prejean o Launch Campaign Opposing Same-Sex Marriage
There are few individuals who have generated more publicity over the past two weeks than Miss California, Carrie Prejean, who announced after the Miss USA pageant that she believed she finished in second place because of her stance against same-sex marriage during the Q&A portion of the competition. Her comments from the night of the pageant have sparked a tremendous amount of controversy and media attention recently.
Earlier this morning on NBC's the Today show, Prejean announced that she will be launching a campaign to protect traditional marriages in correlation with the National Organization of Marriage, according to the Associated Press. Prejean has defended her firm, conservative stance ever since she announced her opposition to same-sex marriage and she intends to continue to promote her viewpoint on the issue.
During her appearance on the Today show, Prejean said, "I never thought in a million years that this would be happening right now. I was attacked for giving my own opinion on stage. I am going to do whatever it takes to protect marriage. Regardless of our opinions, we need to respect each other, even when we disagree. It's all about respect."
Although Prejean has received praise from certain individuals, there has also been a public backlash from those who possess a different opinion about same-sex marriage.
