Rourke will play lead role in remake of 1986 film.
After being last year's comeback kid with the success of The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke has just landed the lead role in Mona Lisa, to be directed by Larry Clark, according to Variety magazine.
Rourke will play an ex-con who has lost his place in the criminal world due to his long prison time. Now, he is working as a driver for a high-class escort and the two become entangled in the criminal world he's from. Bob Hoskins starred in the first film and earned an Oscar nomination for the role. Eva Mendes is in talks to play the escort, originally played by Caty Tyson in the 1986 version written and directed by Neil Jordan.
This casting announcement comes after Rourke's other resume additions, including the villain in Iron Man 2 and Tool in the Sylvester Stallone-directed action The Expendables. The action flick also stars an array of actors and personalities including Jason Statham, Brittany Murphy, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Charisma Carpenter, Randy Couture and Steve Austin. According to imdb.com, Arnold Schwarzenegger will also appear.
