Green Day Promotes New Album and Rocks New York
Legendary punk rock band Green Day brought down the house Tuesday night in New York City. Rocking Webster Hall, (literally, the floor was shaking), they performed an intimate, energy-packed two-hour set to promote their new album, 21st Century Breakdown.
For 1,500 lucky fans, the concert proved to be everything they expected to see from Green Day and more.
They opened the night with an hour-long set of Breakdown material, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard albums chart this week, reported MTV. The first single from their new album, "Know Your Enemy," was met with deafening screams of approval. Others from the album like "Song of the Century," "Last of the American Girls" and "21 Guns" were greeted similarly, if not louder.
Green Day then kept the adrenaline pumping with American Idiot hits like "American Idiot" and "Jesus of Suburbia" before satisfying fan nostalgia with early hits including Dookie's "She" and "Basket Case," as well as Nimrod's "King for a Day."
For two lucky fans who crowd-surfed their way to the stage, vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong stepped aside and allowed them the honor of singing a chorus line. Other fans found themselves aiding Armstrong as he, while still strumming chords, jumped into the crowd for some surf action.
The night came to an eruptive close with Warning's "Minority," but not before Armstrong extensively thanked his fans for their support.
