59-Year-Old Singer Receives New Kidney
A spokesperson for Natalie Cole reported on Wednesday that the rhythm and blues singer has received a new kidney in Los Angeles and is resting comfortably.
Cole, who is battling Hepatitis C, underwent surgery on Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The singer, who announced that she had Hepatitis C last July, said she probably contracted the disease from drug use three decades ago.
She has been receiving kidney dialysis three times a week since September, even as she toured the world to promote her new album, Still Unforgettable. Cole will recuperate for the next three to four months, forcing her to postpone a summer tour, Reuters reported, from a spokesperson's statement.
Cole, who has won nine Grammys, received the life changing kidney from a diseased organ donor through "the regional organ procurement agency, One Legacy," her rep said in a statement.
Cole had hoped that her son would be a match for the donation in February, according to People. Doctors expect Cole will take three to four months to recover.
