A Dolla and a Dream, and the Man Who Ended It

A suspect is being held for the death of rapper Roderick "Dolla" Burton.

Roderick Burton, a.k.a. Dolla, was shot in the head and killed on Monday outside a Beverly Hills mall in Los Angeles. On Wednesday, an Atlanta man was charged with his murder.

The aspiring rapper had been shopping at the Beverly Center with plans to work on his debut album later that day. While in the parking garage, Aubrey Berry, 23, murdered Dolla and quickly fled the scene to the Los Angeles International Airport, according to Reuters.

The two men had been involved in a heated dispute at a strip club in Atlanta last week. Whether or not this served as a motive for the murder is still under investigation. If Berry is found guilty he could face life in prison, but until then is held on $1.1 million bail.

Dolla, who was a protege of the artist, Akon, was working on his LP, A Dolla and a Dream, under Konvict Music. Akon is expected to release a statement on Monday in regard to the album's release, reported MTV.

Dolla's family thanks his fans for being so supportive during such a trying time and encourage them to attend his memorial service in Atlanta, Georgia. The service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Westview Cemetery.
