Blago's Wife to Star in Reality Show
According to the Associated Press, Patti Blagojevich, the foul-mouthed ex-wife of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, is set to star in the reality TV series, I'm a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here!
Both Rod and Patti appeared on NBC's Today show on Thursday to announce the decision. In an interview, Patti Blagojevich expressed her hope that the show would help clear up misconceptions about her as a profanity-spewing person who wishes ill on husband Rod's political enemies--real or imagined.
"I don't think those characterizations are fair at all," she said of the media's portrayals of her conversations on federal wiretaps.
In one conversation recorded by police, Blagojevich is reputed to have made a profanity-laced suggestion that the Tribune Co.--whose owner, Sam Zell, was friendly with her husband--fire editors who didn't agree with the former governor.
"I think people who know me know the truth behind those comments," she said.
Patti's decision to step into the spotlight is a 180-degree turn from her normally reserved, camera shy persona. In the past, she has been careful to shield her children from the camera and has renounced camera time for herself. Now it's her husband's turn to stay out of the limelight--as long as he possibly can.
"She'll have it easier competing in the jungle," joked Rod Blagojevich.
The former governor has indicated that he plans to stay at home and take care of their two daughters, Annie and Amy.
The former governor is accused of offering to sell or trade Barack Obama's Senate seat in exchange for campaign contributions. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
