Mrs. Cruise to perform in the annual Memorial Day Concert on Sunday.
Actress Katie Holmes’s next gig is in Washington. She will perform in a play at the Memorial Day Concert on Sunday, playing a wounded war veteran’s sister, USA Today reports. The story is based on the life of Staff Sergeant José Pequeño, who suffered traumatic brain injury in Iraq. Pequeño, his sister and his mother are going to be in the audience on Sunday.
“It's important to tell these stories and honor the sacrifice and service of these men and women and their families,” Holmes said. “It's a real gift to be able to portray an American of such strength. I'm excited. I want to do justice to her story.”
Dianne Wiest and Gary Sinise, who also co-hosts the concert with Joe Mantegna, will star alongside Holmes.
The Memorial Day Concert wants to “unite the country in remembrance and appreciation of the fallen and to serve those who are grieving,” according to the official Web site. It will be broadcast on PBS from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Sunday from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. EDT.
