American Idol Winner Chats with Fans
After getting only eight hours sleep combined in the last two nights, and just over a day after Kris Allen was given the title of American Idol, he held a question and answer discussion with fans in a text message chat room.
Fans not only ensured Allen that he was worthy of the American Idol title but he gave fans advice and the inside Idol scoop.
To many fans' surprise, Allen admits that he almost quit on his dreams of music prior to the American Idol auditions. He also says that though his mindset is that of a Christian, his beliefs probably won't be seen in his music, just his actions.
Kris went into his song selections and how they must be "cleared" before they can be sung on the show. When asked why he chose to sing Kanye West's "Heartless," he said, "I think [his] entire album is amazing so when I had the chance to do anything I hoped it would be cleared and I thought it would be cool to go with a rap song."
The family of the new idol was also brought up. Kris says his brother is particularly basking in the "Idol" glory and people have even asked for his wife's autograph. "She is awesome," he said, talking about his wife. "She is a great support for me." Kris says he is going to miss their "small" apartment in Conway when he takes on the "Idol" tour that begins this summer. His wife is planning to come to some of the shows too!
Kris said, overall, on the show, most of the songs he wanted to sing he was able to. He tried to pick songs that were best for him. He says he didn't have songs in mind coming into the show that were "must sings," but told fans he will probably be singing "Heartless" and "No Boundaries" on the upcoming "American Idol" tour.
An ACU student asked Kris what types of classes he was taking during college. Kris said he enjoyed piano class, and was pursuing a business major. He noted though that history was not his best subject. "That class was hard for me," he said.
For now, Kris is going to focus on his music, stay friends with Adam, keep showing off his modest personality, have his friends tease him a little bit more, and get ready for the tour.
"Thank you so much for everything and for voting," Allen finished the chat. "You are the reason that I am here, because you cared enough and I owe you so much."
