The Wayans Family Presents "Dance Flick"

The new Wayans comedy parodies both old and new dance films.

The Wayans family is at it again with their latest parody film, Dance Flick. The comedy, which pokes fun at movies focused on dance, was released this weekend with high expectations.

The film tells the story of a white girl, Megan, who loves ballet and moves to an inner city. She falls in love with a black guy, Thomas, who teaches her hip-hop and helps her win a dancing competition (Save the Last Dance, anyone?).

Known for their work with the "Scary Movie" franchise, which parodies popular horror films, the Wayans created Dance Flick to call out classics like Fame and Footloose, as well as new favorites such as You Got Served and Step Up, reported MTV.

"The movies actually became comedies themselves," says Craig Wayans, who co-wrote the script. Also contributing to the film are family members Damien Dante, who directed the film, Damon Jr., who stars as the lead role, and Keenen Ivory, Marlon, Shawn, Kim and Dwayne.

Shoshana Bush, who plays Megan, claims that the hardest part of filming was keeping the Wayans straight. "I had to get who was who down," she told MTV. Damon Jr. joked that even he still doesn't have everyone straight.

Opening the weekend with an estimated $3.9 million in box office sales, the film's intentionally bad dancing and hysterical pop culture references are guaranteed to cause plenty of laughs.
