Aubrey Louis Berry, 23, told reporters, through his attorney, that his actions were justified, according to Rolling Stone. "If somebody has a reasonable perception that he is in danger of bodily injury or death, he has a right to defend himself," Berry's attorney told MTV.com.

The altercation started in an Atlanta strip club, reports the Los Angeles Times. By chance, the two ran into one another across the country in P.F. Chang's Monday. Upon leaving the restaurant, Berry felt he was being followed by Dolla and his crew, Berry's attorney said. When Berry thought he saw one of the three men go for their waistband, he opened fire.

Dolla died from gunshot wounds after being shot down Monday, outside the Beverly Center Mall in West Hollywood, reports AJC.com. Berry was arrested hours later and is on trial for the murder.

According to AJC, the young hip-hop artist from Atlanta told his older brother, Will Robinson, that he did not fear death. While speaking at his younger brother's funeral, Robinson told fellow friends and family that Dolla wanted everyone to celebrate the 21 years of his life by wearing all white to Saturday's service.
