New ABC Family Series Based on "10 Things"

A retelling of the teen hit "10 Things I Hate About You" debuts in July.

ABC Family is continuing its teen television series role with the July 7 debut of "10 Things I Hate About You," based on the 1999 film of the same name, according to IMDb.com.

Before "10 Things I Hate About You" hit theaters in March of 1999, audiences were still unfamiliar with stars Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, but soon after the teen film came out, those actors became household names. The original film's story is a modern retelling of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," revolving around Stiles's character, Kat, a negative teen who loathes men and popularity, and her sister, Bianca, the complete opposite. Larisa Oleynik and Joseph Gordon-Levitt co-starred.

The current TV series has the same plot and characters, and stars relative newcomers to the biz. Lindsey Shaw plays Kat after several spots in short-lived television series, and Meaghan Jette Martin, of "Camp Rock" fame, is Bianca.

To fill the late Ledger's shoes, the series creators found looks, charm and talent in Ethan Peck, the grandson of Hollywood legend Gregory Peck.

Larry Miller is reprising his role as the girls' protective father, Dr. Walter Stratford.
