AT&T Claims Voting Scandal Is Over-Dramatized
Many fans are delighted by the victory of Kris Allen, American Idol's Season 8 winner. A controversy had been rumored to have occurred, however, on Wednesday. According to MSNBC, Communications company AT&T admitted that excited employees brought demo phones to "viewing parties," supporting Allen. Employees are also rumored, according to USA Today, to have taught Kris Allen fans how to cast multiple votes on their cell phones. AT&T said that their workers' votes didn't affect Allen's victory.
A spokesperson from American Idol said, "The results of this competition are fair, accurate and verified. Kris Allen is, without a doubt, the American Idol. We have an independent third-party monitoring procedure in place to ensure the integrity of the voting process. In no way did any individuals unfairly influence the outcome of the competition."
Allen, 23, who is from Conway, Ark., was the apparent "underdog" of Season 8. Many expected Adam Lambert, 27, of San Diego, to win. Allen however, won the title of American Idol.
