Conan aims for younger audience on "The Tonight Show"

Conan O達rian seems to be using his talent for scripted skits to attract a flagging youth audience back to the legendary show.
As the new host of "The Tonight Show," Conan O達rian has begun to make changes that reflect his specific talents as a comic, but also attempt to attract a younger crowd to the legendary show.
The comic, who spent his early years in the business as a writer for "Saturday Night Live" and "The Simpsons," has begun to add his signature style to the show by placing an emphasis on skits and scripted routines, which were a big part of his previous show, "Late Night with Conan O達rien." Also coming to "The Tonight Show" from "Late Night" is O達rian痴 sidekick, Andy Samberg, and the "Late Night" writing staff.
This is probably due to the show痴 flagging youth audience. Bloomberg.com reported that O達rian痴 predecessor, Jay Leno, lost the 18-49 year-old viewership by almost 35 percent. All the same, "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" has been the most watched program at 11:30 p.m. for 14 years, and the producers are taking on a great risk by changing hosts. The New York Times reported that "The Tonight Show" brings NBC $100 million every year. The expectations for O達rian will be especially high and the shoes left behind by men like Johnny Carson and Jay Leno will be hard to fill, both in terms of tradition, comedy, and, of course, commerciality.
