“Heathers“ Sequel in the Works

Winona Ryder confirms a follow-up to the cult classic.

Before Winona Ryder was a household name and Christian Slater was a sex symbol, the two starred in the cult classic "Heathers." Now, Ryder has confirmed the two stars are planning a sequel, according to imdb.com. The original 1988 film also launched Shannon Doherty's career before "Beverly Hills, 90210" or "Charmed," but she has not been mentioned in sequel talks. The original told the story of Veronica's (Ryder) trials and tribulations trying to fit in with the "in crowd" or the "Heathers" as they are called. Slater plays the rebel who tries to help her find a place in the high school society. The details of the new film are unclear, but Ryder told "Empire Magazine" that she and Slater would venture back to Westerberg High. "Whatever you hear, there is a sequel in the works, I swear to God," Ryder said. "But for some reason the writer, Dan Waters, and director, Michael Lehman, don't want to talk about it. I've been wanting to do a sequel forever. There is a story, and Christian has agreed to come back." Ryder has been staying out of the limelight for years, her most recent film being "Star Trek," where the actress is almost unrecognizable as Spock's mom. Slater recently had his TV drama, "My Own Worst Enemy," canceled and hasn't had a starring role in a major feature film since "3000 Miles to Graceland" in 2001.
