Pearl Jam Debuts New Song on "The Tonight Show"
It was a big night of debuts for Conan O'Brien, who hosted his first ever "Tonight Show" following Jay Leno's 17 year reign. The show's first musical guest, Pearl Jam, debuted a brand new song from their upcoming album.
The new track, titled "Get Some," will appear on their forthcoming album, "Backspacer." It has been more than three years since Pearl Jam released their last CD, the 2006 eponymous record. In that time, the only other notable output was Eddie Vedder's solo work for the "Into the Wild" soundtrack.
Fans will have to wait a little longer to hear the rest of the album however. According to MTV.com, "Backspacer" won't be released until the fall. But fans will get at least one more taste of the new record before then. Paste Magazine reports that Pearl Jam partnered with director Cameron Crowe to produce a commercial for Target that will feature another unreleased song called "The Fixer."
Why Target? It turns out Pearl Jam has inked a deal to release the album exclusively at the megastore, according to Billboard. The decision has stirred up some minor controversy with critics questioning why the well-known anti-corporate band is now siding with a major corporation.
However, if Conan's reaction is any indication, fans are too hungry for the new record to care much about the details. After their performance last night, Conan seemed to struggle to find the words to express his awe of the band. "Good Lord, Pearl Jam," was all he could say.
