Conan "Tonight Show" Premiere a Smash
Conan O'Brien, successor to "The Tonight Show," is doing Johnny Carson proud. Conan's Monday debut as host for the famed program had the best ratings out of any other prime time broadcast.
According to The New York Times, the premiere episode bested all previous Monday ratings for any overnight program since January 2005, which itself was a tribute to legendary "Tonight Show" host Johnny Carson. No episode of the "Tonight Show" had reached this ratings pinnacle since.
Although exact figures have not yet been released, the estimates are around eighty percent higher than the average under Jay Leno, the previous host. What's more, ratings were 250 percent greater than O'Brien's final hosting gig for "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." The franchise looks to have a prosperous future under the helm of its gangly new host.
