Paul McCartney to Inaugurate Mets' New Home

Two dates planned for Citi Field.

In a case of dej... vu, Paul McCartney has announced two performances to inaugurate the New York Mets' new home in Citi Field.

According to the New York Daily News, one of the surviving Beatles will perform on June 17 and 18 and marking the first time that an artist has played at the stadium.

In a press release, McCartney expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming performances.

"I'm really excited about playing Citi Field," he said. "The Beatles were the first to play at Shea Stadium, and along with Billy Joel, I was the last to sing at the old Shea. So to be the first to play this stadium is incredible. I am really looking forward to a buzzing show."

A third show is also rumored to be in the works for June 21.

The upcoming performances echo the Beatles' performance at the Shea Stadium on August 15, 1965. The event set records for highest attendance and predating the rise of stadium rock. Over 55,000 fans attended the original performance. The band followed it up with a second performance in 1966. The record was surpassed by Grand Funk Railroad in 1971. Since then, hundreds of artists have played at the old Shea, including the Clash, the Police, R.E.M., Eric Clapton and many others.

Tickets for McCartney's performance at Citi Field go on sale Monday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m EST. They are available exclusively through 501TIXX.com.
