Rourke as Whiplash in "Iron Man 2"

The first look at Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in the "Iron Man" sequel has been released.

Paramount has released the first peek at actor Mickey Rourke as Whiplash as he is geared up to wreck chaos for Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) in "Iron Man 2."

The actor was spotted wearing a partial exoskeleton with a power pack on his chest reminiscent of Iron Man's own. Ivan Vanko, the character's alter ego, is a Russian who "has constructed his own version of a suit," director Jon Favreau described to USA Today.

Favreau went on to say, "The technologies are definitely related, and that's part of the core theme of the film."

Golden Globe Best Actor winner, Rourke, told the paper that Whiplash "is going to light them up."

This first image of the character shows the villain making an appearance at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.

Whiplash, along with The Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, will take on Iron Man in the eagerly anticipated sequel, in theatres May 7, 2010.
