Transition to Digital goes fairly smoothly

July 12, otherwise known as D-Day, when all televisions would be required to make the transition from analog to digital, has come and gone and the switch has gone smoothly, a USAToday.com story reports.

The Federal Communications Commission reported Sunday that there were no major problems moving America to a digital TV country.

Digital signals are those received through a cable or satellite feed, and not through air waves. With digital television, American audiences can expect better quality visuals, audio, as well as increased programming options.

In a prepared statement, FCC Chairman Michael Copps said, "For TV broadcasting, it was a final farewell to the Dinosaur Age and the dawn of the Digital Age."

A day after the switch, the FCC reported receiving 315,000 calls from troubled viewers. By Sunday, the calls had dwindled down to 60,000.

Any one experiencing trouble can contact the FCC's hotline at 888-CALL-FCC or go to www.dtv.gov.
