Vampire Mania: 'True Blood' and 'Twilight'

'True Blood' is an excellent television series and Stephenie Meyer's 'Twlight' series is also excellent. Why can't I like both?

I'm not afraid to admit that I am swept up in vampire mania. I read Stephenie Meyer's vampire series and became addicted to the love story of Edward and Bella. However, Edward and Bella seem childish in comparison to Bill and Sookie in the HBO original series, "True Blood."

The "Twilight" book series is for people as young as 10 and as old as 88. Edward and Bella's story can be read all around and everyone can enjoy it. "True Blood" is a different story. I would not advise anyone under the age of 15 to watch that show. Sure, the sex between Bill and Sookie is, for a lack of a better word, intense, but the graphic violence on the show could give any impressionable tween a nightmare.

The "Twilight" book series is great and even when the story starts to slow down, you still won't want to put it down. Meyer is an excellent writer because she writes very simply but enough to keep the reader wanting to know more. The "Twilight" book series has romance and mystery, but it's very mild and light (unless you count hearing "fabric shred" in the last novel). "True Blood," on the other hand, has some of the same elements but on an almost rated-R level. The television series deals with how the human world feels about vampires, drug addiction or rather addiction to vampire blood, and also legalization of vampire-human marriage (I guess Bella never got the memo). Both vampire series are excellent and neither one is better than the other because both were created for different audiences.

Final Thought: The "Twilight" book series is an excellent read but if you cannot get enough of vampires and their obsession with falling for humans, then "True Blood" should do the trick.
