Sarah Palin Sees the Letterman Controversy As A Free Speech Issue
David Letterman, host of the popular "The Late Show" on CBS has been in hot water all week after a joke he made that said Sarah Palin's 14-year-old daughter, Willow, was impregnated by Yankees player, Alex Rodriguez.
Although Letterman had meant to target Bristol, Palin's 18-year-old daughter, this joke has created great controversy between him and the Palin family. The issue has been taken up with the Republican Party and women's rights groups.
Letterman offered an apology for the joke, though The Star Ledger reported that protests will be held outside the Ed Sullivan Theater where Letterman tapes, calling for his firing.
Palin has accepted his apology, and according to ABC News, said, "Letterman certainly has the right to 'joke' about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction. And this is all thanks to our U.S. military women and men putting their lives on the line for us to secure America's right to free speech - in this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect."
It is unknown what actions CBS will take, if any, regarding the issue.
