Natalie Portman to Star in Darren Aronofsky's 'Swan Song'
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Natalie Portman's next new movie will find her donning pointe shoes as she competes against a most unusual ballet competitor.
"Swan Song," directed by Darren Aronofsky, stars Portman as an in-demand ballet dancer who competes with a rival dancer as they both lead up to a major performance. Yet it's unclear whether the rival is a human being, or a spirit from another world.
It is the first pairing for Portman and Aronofsky and described as a supernatural thriller with elements of "The Others."
If Aronofsky is successful in pitching the movie, "Swan" could start filming later this year.
Though the movie is far from a done deal, with two years of history behind it, "Swan" has built up momentum. Already it has found a home at Universal Studios, which has given the project a much needed boost after bringing in Protozoa Pictures Mark Heyman to rewrite John McLaughlin's original script.
In the meantime, Aronofsky has his hands full. He is currently developing a "RoboCop" reboot at MGM.
