True Blood Scores Huge Ratings for HBO
HBO's new vampire drama has seen a dramatic increase in viewers since the premiere of the first season. Entertainment Weekly reports that the recent premiere of the second season had 3.7 million viewers, up from the 1.4 million who watched the very first episode. This means that the show's fandom has increased by 157 percent. The fans of "True Blood" are multiplying like zombies, or maybe some other undead creature.
The good news keeps coming for HBO. The L.A. Times reports that the season one DVDs have earned $26 million in its first two weeks. Furthermore, it has become one of iTunes' most popular downloadable shows. HBO hasn't seen this kind of success since "The Sopranos." Watch out, Showtime.
These numbers are huge for a pay cable channel, and they don't even include the numbers for the multiple airings of the second season's premiere episode. With early success like this, BuddyTV estimates that the show could go for another three or four seasons, easy. "True Blood" is poised to be HBO's next big hit.
