Chris Brown's Hearing Delay Denied
Chris Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, had asked the California Supreme Court to delay a key hearing in the R&B singer's assault case but the court has denied that request, Access Hollywood reports. The case will proceed as planed on June 22.
According to RollingStone.com, Brown's legal team filed another request with the presiding judge last week, asking to push back the preliminary hearing until they could get a look at police personnel records; specifically, a leaked photo of Rihanna showing visible injuries. Because the judge denied that request, lawyers filed papers with California's Supreme Court with the same request.
Geragos considers the records essential for cross-examining police witnesses and has argued that the leaked photo may prevent Brown from having his case heard in front of an unbiased jury. In the denial, the trial judge argued that the defense can request the information 30 days before the actual trial begins.
Brown has pleaded not guilty to assaulting and threatening his former girlfriend, Rihanna, in February. Rihanna is expected to testify at the hearing.
