Letterman Ends Another Feud and Gains Ratings

Letterman issues a second apology to Governor Palin, laying feud to rest.

David Letterman laid to rest his latest feud with Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. The late night talk show king offered a second apology on the heels of a half-sarcastic sign of regret last week.

A recent poll taken by HCD Research found that 60 percent of respondents believed Letterman's apology was genuine, according to MyFox National. Palin was apparently among these 60 percent, as she issued a public statement accepting his apology as a victory for women everywhere.

"I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I'm sorry about it and I'll try to do better in the future," Letterman told the studio audience during the Monday night broadcast of his show.

The controversy in question is about the intended target of a joke he made last week on the air. "One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game," he said, "during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."

Letterman intended the joke to be about Palin's 18-year-old daughter, Bristol. But Palin and her family interpreted the joke to be about their 14-year-old underage daughter, Willow.

Whatever the intention, it seems both parties have won out. Palin continues her 15 minutes of political fame and Letterman is still behind his late show desk, with an increase in ratings from all the controversy.
