Mission Impossible: Resurrect Tom Cruise's Career

Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams pair up for Mission: Impossible IV

The movie sequels keep on coming, as actor Tom Cruise and director J.J. Abrams agree to make yet another follow up to the Mission: Impossible movie series, according to the Daily Variety.

Cruise has not worked for Paramount studios, which produced the previous three Mission: Impossible movies, since 2006, when Sumner Redstome, the chief of Viacom terminated their 14 year long relationship with the actor, reports the Daily Variety.

Abrams and Cruise could not be in two more different points in their careers, professionally. Abrams just recently had a critical and commercial success with his remake of the Star Trek series. Cruise, on the other hand, is still wounded by a poor public image from his Scientology outbursts and a lackluster effort with his most recent film, Valkyrie.

Perhaps this new Mission: Impossible will remind disillusioned fans of the actor's star power and lovability on screen. Or maybe not.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the release date for the new movie is scheduled for 2011.
