Angelina Jolie Present at World Refugee Day
Film star Angelina Jolie was an audience member at the World Refugee Day ceremony earlier today, a day that commemorates refugees that have been relocated to the United States, People magazine reports. She joined others in listening to the stories of survivors of war-torn countries who had made it to the United States. Of the refugees, she said, "Most of all they are survivors. . . . They are the most impressive people I have ever met."
Jolie currently serves as a Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Refugee Agency, traveling abroad to provide aid to those in need. She said, "Refugees are the most vulnerable people on earth. . . . Every day they are fighting to survive. They deserve our respect," according to Star Magazine. Her presence at the ceremony comes days after the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, started with her husband, actor Brad Pitt, donated $1 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to provide aid to displaced peoples in Pakistan.
Jolie has just finished filming "Salt" earlier this week in New York.
