Alice in Wonderland Gets "Burton-ized"
Lewis Caroll's "Alice in Wonderland" is finally being done by someone as strange as the story.
Rumors about a Tim Burton version of the fantastic tale have been confirmed with the release of its first official images. According to TheHDRoom.com, images of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen will appear in theaters across America this week.
USA Today reports that the role of Alice has been given to Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, 19. She plays a 17-year-old Alice who runs off in pursuit of the White Rabbit, voiced by Michael Sheen, after learning that she's about to be proposed to at a party full of snooty Victorians. Once in Wonderland, she finds that she had been there ten years ago but doesn't remember anything about it.
Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" will be released in March 2010. According to Total Film, the live scenes took only 40 days to film, and are now being blended with CG animation and transferred into 3D.
Despite the movie's darker tones, such as a mote filled with heads, producer Richard Zanuck assures us that most kids can handle it.
