Merlin Casts a Spell on Viewers
22-Jun-2009
Written by: Ivory Sherman

“Merlin,” which aired Sunday on NBC, is a great summer television show.

Before Harry Potter knew magic existed, there was already a chosen one and his name was Merlin. NBC’s new summer television show, “Merlin,” aired Sunday and had an average of five million viewers, according to the New York Times. “Merlin” is a BBC produced television series that was tweaked for the teen audience. “Merlin” does not start with an old wizard trying to save the beloved Camelot, but starts at the beginning of Merlin’s journey when he does not know how to control his magic. “No man, no matter how great can know his destiny,” which was said in the beginning of the show, also helped set the television show’s theme for the legendary wizard.

“Merlin” is a great summer show for all audiences. All age groups can find something enjoyable in the new show. From the very beginning, the show grabs your attention with the infamous tyrant Uther Pendragon beheading a young man for practicing magic. This causes problems for the young Merlin since Pendragon banned the use of magic in the kingdom and was using the beheading as an example to all what would happen if you disobeyed. Also, watching Merlin use his magic is definitely entertaining since you never know if he will be using it to save Prince Arthur or make a fool out of him.

Final Thought: If you are tired of watching celebrities fend for themselves in the jungle or need something to watch during the summer, “Merlin” is a great pick.
