Will It “Make It or Break It?”

Will “Make It or Break It?” be a summer hit?
“Make It or Break It” is the perfect title for this new teen drama. It highlights the competitive world of girls’ gymnastics with a splash of teenage social hierarchy. The TV series, which aired on Monday on ABC Family, introduces the same elements: the disadvantaged girl fighting for her dream (or the underdog), the queen bee who cannot stand that someone is better than her, and the father who believes that money is the solution to problems in life. Despite those elements, “Make It or Break It” was somehow still appealing and entertaining.
“Make It or Break It” is about a gymnast named Emily Kmetko (Chelsea Hobbs) who moves to Colorado on a gymnastics scholarship. The series then moves forward with Lauren Tanner (Cassie Scerbo) doing everything in her power to ruin Kmetko, Tanner’s father, Steve (Tony Starke), making sure his daughter gets to Nationals (even if it requires underhandedness), and how the other girls on the team balance the stressful world of gymnastics and living a normal life. Kudos to Holly Sorensen, creator of “Make It or Break It,” for giving queen bee Lauren Tanner a little more sting because Tanner does not make idle threats when it comes to her being in the top three. Lauren Tanner will make the audience’s blood boil because of the things she did (and will do) in order to stay at the top. In addition, the audience cannot help but root for Kmetko as she rises to the top and hopefully takes Tanner down a few notches.
Final Thought: If you’re waiting for “Gossip Girl,” “One Tree Hill” or “90210” to come back on, “Make It or Break It” will help ease the wait.
