Cher and Christina Together on the Big Screen
Oscar-winning actress and vocal icon Cher and Grammy-winning singer Christina Aguilera are teaming up for the big screen to co-star in the contemporary musical, "Burlesque."
Directed and written by Steven Antin, with revisions by Susannah Grant, the film is set in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard, reported People. Aguilera, 28, plays a Midwestern girl who moves to L.A. in search of stardom. She is hired by Cher, 63, a struggling ex-dancer who owns the club, and gets a chance to prove herself.
According to United Press International, "Burlesque" will mark Cher's first lead role in a film in almost a decade as well as the first time she will vocally perform in a movie in which she is also the star.
"[Cher] brings a soulfulness and gravitas to this character that will ground the story," said Clint Culpepper, president of Screen Gems. "The only person who was more excited than I am is Christina."
Production of the film will begin this November.
