Nick Jonas Talks About Diabetes In Washington
Even though Nick Jonas is currently on tour, he took some time out of his busy schedule to go to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to lobby for diabetes research. While Jonas was there, he met with Barack Obama and other kids who are affected by the disease, according to MTV News.
The first stop was the White House. This is the second time the singer has been there. Jonas' first time was when he and his brothers performed for Obama's daughters, Sasha and Malia, earlier this year.
"It was great," he said. "He came up and thanked me for meeting his daughters and playing for them. I said, 'It's a pleasure to meet you.' He said, 'It's a pleasure to meet you, too.' Then we took a picture with about 100 kids."
After the White House, Jonas went to Capitol Hill for a private meeting with New Jersey Senator, Frank Lautenberg.
The 16-year-old, who revealed he was Type 1 diabetes while performing at a Diabetes Research Institute fundraiser in 2007, is going to testify on Wednesday at a Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee hearing on federal funding for diabetes research along with boxer Sugar Ray Leonard and actress Mary Tyler Moore.
"It's amazing [to meet them]," he told People about the pop-culture legends. "They're, like, household names."
