Elisabeth Hasselbeck Comments on Plagiarism Charge

Hasselbeck claims she didn’t plagiarize in her new book.
On Wednesday’s “The View,” host Elisabeth Hasselbeck took a moment to comment on the copyright infringement charge that has been filed against her.
“I just want to assure you the allegations are without merit and are being handled appropriately,” Hasselbeck said.
Hasselbeck suffers from celiac disease, which doesn’t allow her to eat gluten proteins found in wheat, barley and rye.
Inspired by her autoimmune disorder, Hasselbeck wrote a book called “The G-Free Diet- A Gluten-Free Survival Guide.” The book was published in May 2009 by Center Street Hachette Book Group.
The woman who charged Hasselbeck with plagiarism is Massachusetts author Susan Hassett, who wrote “Living with Celiac Disease.” According to People, Hassett sent Hasselbeck a copy of her book, a homemade cooking video, a newspaper clipping about celiac disease, her business card and a personal note. Hassett claims she never got a thank you.
Hassett is now claiming that Hasselbeck plagiarized from her book and stole material “word for word.” Hassett is asking for $3 million and says a portion of any proceeds she receives from the lawsuit will go toward the creation of a camp for children with celiac disease.
On Tuesday, a statement representing Hasselbeck and Center Street said, “There is no basis for the allegations in the Complaint as published in the press. Ms. Hasselbeck worked diligently and tirelessly on her book and is disappointed in this attempt to discredit her work and her ability to bring this important message to the public.”
