Family Films Top-grossing in 2004
Film indusrty learns the imortance of family.
In 2004 the movie industry learned the importance of family as PG-rated films out-grossed R-rated films last year. PG films were able to gross $2.3 billion in US tickets thanks in part to 2004's biggest film Shrek 2, which grossed 441.2 million. Five of the ten biggest films last year were rated PG, while only four R-rated movies made the top twenty-five, the largest being The Passion of the Christ.
It has been twenty years since PG-rated films have outperformed R-rated films and even though there were more movies made that were aimed at adults, family films were still able to come out on top in 2004.
