Columbia Pictures Introduces "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune"

The popular video game is next in line to become a major motion picture.

Columbia Pictures has exciting news for all the video-game-gone-film fans out there. On Friday the production company, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, announced that the hit game "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" is scheduled for the big screen.

Created by Naughty Dog, "Uncharted" stands as PlayStation 3's "best-selling action-adventure game" to date, reported Wired.com.

Protagonist Nate Drake, who adapts the treasure hunting gene from his distant relative Sir Francis Drake, sets off on a quest to find the lost world of El Dorado, or "The Lost City of Gold." Believing he knows the way after deciphering a code engraved on a ring once worn by the elder Drake, Nate finds adventure while fighting mutated Spaniards and Nazis.

Screenwriter Kyle Ward, responsible for game-gone-feature-films "Hitman 2" and "Kane & Lynch," will write the screenplay. The adaptation will also involve production by Charles Roven, Alex Gartner and former CEO of Marvel Entertainment Avi Arad.

There is no word yet of who will play Nate, but the universal choice seems to be Nathan Fillion of "Firefly" and "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog."

The second installment of the video game series, "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves," is due in November.
