Lost fanatics everywhere can celebrate the fact that ABC has granted them an extra hour of the show before the series draws to a close at the end of Season 6.
According to IGN Entertainment, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, two of the masterminds behind "Lost," had previously announced that the sixth and final season of the show would consist of 17 hours. However, Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello revealed on Friday via Twitter, "ABC confirms that Lost's sixth and final season will total 18 hours, including two-hour premiere and two-hour finale."
Before the writers' strike occurred and shortened Season 4 of the show, Season 6 was scheduled to total 16 hours, IGN Entertainment reports. This is therefore the second time the show has been extended in order to answer five seasons' worth of questions, and I'd be willing to bet that viewers are not complaining.
The date for the Season 6 premiere of "Lost" has yet to be released, but viewers can expect the action to resume in January, as it has done the past two seasons.
