Goodbye Michael Jackson?
29-Jun-2009
Written by: Mamusu Tucker

Is Michael Jackson really gone?

I did not want to believe that he was gone. It seemed like a dream. I closed my eyes and got lost in thought as I wished that it was all untrue. But as I slowly opened my eyes once again, I was faced with the truth as the news scrolled across the television screen: Michael Jackson Dies at the Age of 50. Fifty is so young and yet that was as far as Michael would make it. For years I have had conversations with people as to what would be their reaction if he were to pass away. The conversation always ended with, “It won’t happen any time soon.” But soon was June 25. The man who opened the door for African-American artists is actually gone. I still can’t believe it, even as I watch his videos on heavy rotation on MTV. Maybe Michael is playing a huge joke on us. He is actually on an island somewhere that he bought years ago that resembles Never Never Land and he is happy; happy that he doesn’t have to deal with the media who loves him one day but is quick to accuse him the next. And as he is on that island he can see how much love and support everyone is giving, how he has truly touched the lives of millions all over the world. And maybe, just maybe he will come back in two years and say, “Surprise, I got you!” in the soft spoken manner he is known for having. Then we all get mad, the media talks down on him again then we get over it because we are happy he is back. But I know none of that will happen. Even though he is not physically here, Michael will still live on. There is no musician who graced this Earth that has had such a worldly impact as Michael. Every continent, every nation, every single city in the world is filled with people who have shed a tear for this man whose music has shaped our lives in some way. I’m not as big of a fan as some people I have encountered but I was a fan who shed a tear for this man. He will forever live on through his music and in the hearts of those who will continue to carry him with them. So this is not goodbye, as long as his image and his music exists he will never leave us.
