Written by: Jaime Lauren Green

Celebrities took the stage to celebrate the King of Pop’s death at the 2009 BET Awards.

Opposed to mourning Michael Jackson’s death, the celebrities who took the stage at the 2009 BET Awards celebrated the memory of the King of Pop. The celebrities did so with “pumped up” performances, kind words as well as a surprise appearance by the star’s sister, Janet Jackson.

The ceremony was kicked off with a tribute to the fallen star, as New Edition, idols of the 1980s, dressed in 1970s era clothes to sing the Jackson 5’s, “ABC” and “The Love You Save.”

The host of the night, Jamie Foxx, wore an outfit reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s famous “Beat It” gear. Foxx had on a red leather jacket, cropped black pants, high white socks and black loafers. The host also performed a dance sequence from Jackson’s video and moon walked across the stage in honor of the “King.”

Foxx told the audience, “We are here for the greatest. There’s no need to be sad.”

The ceremony was held at the Shrine Auditorium.
