Lea Thompson, who starred as Michael J. Fox’s mother in the “Back to the Future” trilogy, is uniting with Howard Deutch, the director of “The Whole Ten Yards,” to star in the television dramedy, “A Town Called Malice.”
“Caroline in the City” star Lea Thompson is teaming up with Howard Deutch, the director of the 2004 Bruce Willis/Matthew Perry comedy, “The Whole Ten Yards” to star in a television dramedy from Elevate Entertainment entitled “A Town Called Malice.”
“Malice” was written by Erin Maher and Kaye Reindl. Both were writers for the CBS vampire show, “Moonlight.” Maher also wrote for the USA Network series, “The Dead Zone,” which featured ‘80s movie icon Anthony Michael Hall.
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “It centers on a former rock 'n roll star (Thompson) who returns to her hometown with her estranged teenage daughter after her husband self-destructs during a comeback concert. Faced with the loss of the family fortune, the two must rebuild their lives as well as their relationship in the small town Mom ran away from when she was 16.”
Elevate Entertainment will produce the prospective series and shop it to television outlets.
Deutch's directing credits include the 1994 Macaulay Culkin/Ted Danson family comedy, “Getting Even with Dad,” the 1995 Walter Matthau/Jack Lemmon/Ann Margaret/Sophia Loren comedy, “Grumpier Old Men,” the 2000 Keanu Reeves/Gene Hackman sports comedy, “The Replacements,” and most recently, the 2008 Dane Cook/Kate Hudson/Alec Baldwin romantic comedy, “My Best Friend’s Girl.”
Deutch is represented by ICM. Thompson is repped by Innovative and manager Gordon Gilbertson. Reindl and Maher are repped by Paradigm and Elevate.
