Hargitay and Meloni return to ‘SVU’

NBC’s “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” brings back its two leads, Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni, for the show’s 11th season.
This fall, NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” will have Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni back for the show’s 11th season.
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “Additionally, Emmy winner Christine Lahti has signed on to play the ADA on the veteran series for the first four episodes. Stephanie March will then return, reprising her role as ADA Alexandra Cabot.”
Hargitay and Meloni, who sources say negotiate their contracts together, have signed one-year deals with a choice for a second year.
Despite rampant salary cutbacks, Hargitay and Meloni have reportedly received salary increases, boosting their most recent pay of about $385,000 an episode, to possibly more than $400,000 an episode now.
The HollywoodReporter.com article went on to say, “Hargitay and Meloni's deals come a month after NBC closed a deal with Wolf Films for the renewal of ‘Law & Order: SVU.’ At the time, NBC brass said that the show will return with or without its stars as the networks and reps for the actors had been embroiled in intense negotiations.”
Even though crime shows have been shown to have more flexibility than character dramas when it comes to replacing leads, if Hargitay and Meloni, who are considered the heart and soul of the show, hadn’t been nailed down to return, “SVU” would have taken an enormous blow.
Hargitay is represented by Paradigm. Meloni is represented by Gersh.
