New Addition to Desperate Houswives
30-Jun-2009
Written by: Gina Ferrara
Drea de Matteo added to cast
In a seeming effort to spice things up on the sultry drama, “Desperate Housewives,” Drea de Matteo will be joining the ensemble in a non-surprising role of an Italian neighbor and her family. The Los Angeles Times reports that de Matteo, originally star of HBO’s “The Sopranos,” will be a saucy matriarch with a troubled son and a landscaping husband. On “The Sopranos,” de Matteo starred as an FBI informant and a romantic interest of a mob member, winning an Emmy for her role.
Gaywired.com states that de Matteo will join the series for the sixth season. Since Nicollette Sheridan’s character is dead, producers were searching for an edgy new mother to join the cast. The Envelope speculates the reason for the new casting is because “Housewives” has faced some recent disappointment in the eyes of TV critics. De Matteo is not the first of the new faces on the program, as Dana Delaney of “China Beach” joined in season five.
