Hilary Duff Joins “Gossip Girl“

Duff will have a recurring role on the TV show next season.
Hilary Duff has signed on to appear in multiple episodes of the hit series “Gossip Girl,” the New York Post reports.
Duff will play Olivia Burke, a movie star who attends New York University in search of a traditional college experience. In the show, Blair (Leighton Meester), Dan (Penn Badgley) and Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) were also accepted to NYU and Duff’s character becomes Vanessa’s roommate.
MTV.com reports that Duff said in December that she had become a fan of the show, entering into its third season. At the time, though, Duff was developing her own pilot for NBC called “Barely Legal.” Producers eventually passed on the series, giving Duff the chance to return to TV through “Gossip Girl.”
According to E! News, Duff’s new character may also be the new love interest for Dan, who broke off his relationship with Serena last season. According to E!, Dan is looking to get serious with Olivia and doesn’t even know she’s famous.
Duff will make her “Gossip Girl” debut in the season’s fourth episode, scheduled to air Oct. 5.
