Transformers 2 Racial Issue
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is this summer's highly anticipated sequel, but some audience members believe the movie makes racist stereotypes with two of its robots.
Twin robots, Skids and Mudflap, are Chevy hatchback transformers with very little intelligence, fight with each other during the bulk of their screen time and one even sports a gold tooth. The robots are said to resemble unfair African-American stereotypes, particularly in young men, and fans are not happy.
According to ABC News, viewers who saw early showings of the movie felt that the racial stereotype was unnecessary for comic relief. One viewer was unhappy since he knew many children would see the movie and be influenced by those kinds of stereotypes.
Even Roger Ebert was unimpressed with the robot characters in the movies. He and other film critics believe the producers did a poor job on creating the twin robot characters.
Hopefully other filmmakers will take note on this error before creating similar characters.
