‘Castle’ novel to be released to promote series
1-Jul-2009
Written by: Sari N. Kent

ABC and Hyperion will be releasing a novel that ties in with the network’s hit crime/drama/comedy “Castle” and chapters of the book will be posted on ABC’s web site to entice viewers to tune into the second season of the series.

ABC’s “Castle,” which has been picked up for a second season, will be debut a book to be available on ABC.com that will lead up to the show’s second season premiere.

According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “Starting Aug. 10, the first chapter of a novel titled ‘Heat Wave,’ credited to Richard Castle, will debut on ABC.com as a round of on-air repeats lead up to the Season 2 premiere in late September.’”

ABC.com will post the first half of the book, meaning a chapter a week for 10 weeks. The completed novel will be published Sept. 29 by Hyperion. The book’s plot will be a story separate from the show but will have some crisscrossing components that will coincide with the on-screen story.

This is not the first time ABC has teamed with Hyperion to create a novel that corresponds with a hit network program. The HollywoodReporter.com mentions, “…for 2006's ‘Lost’ tie-in ‘Bad Twin’ and ‘The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer,’ which tied in to the ABC miniseries ‘Rose Red.’ Both sold quite well. The real author of ‘Heat Wave’ is not being unveiled.’”

“Castle” which airs on Monday nights at 10 p.m. stars Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, a best-selling mystery novelist who initially was called to aid the NYPD and detective Kate Beckett, played by Stana Katic, in solving a copycat murder based on one of his novels. He then decides to use Beckett as a model for his new book series and through his celebrity, is permitted to tag along with Beckett on investigating cases.

Fillion is best known for playing Joey Buchannan on the ABC soap opera “One Life to Live” from 1994 to 1997. He returned for a guest appearance on Aug.16 and 17, 2007.
