legendary actor passes peacefully
Karl Malden, an actor in some of the most famous works in film history, died today peacefully of natural causes. His death won’t bring a storm of media coverage – excessive limelight wasn’t Malden’s style. The actor was often known for not having starring roles in the films he chose. As a supporting actor however, he enhanced the character interactions in some of the 20th century’s most legendary films.
His acting legacy includes the films “A Streetcar Named Desire”, “On the Waterfront”, and “Patton”, as well as a starring role in the 1970’s police drama “The Streets of San Francisco”. In addition, he was the pitchman for American Express, where he popularized the catch-phrase “Don’t leave home without it”. Malden served as the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1989 to 1992.
This week has seen a staggering number of Hollywood deaths. While Malden wasn’t a Hollywood superstar, his legacy of extremely important film work will live on in the hearts cinema lovers forever.
