Quincy Jones Gets Nostalgic About Michael Jackson
It's been a week since Michael Jackson passed away and the recollections of his life and all its eccentricities are underway. Perhaps none is more interesting and insightful than that of Quincy Jones.
Jones, the producer behind some of Jackson's biggest records, talks about the life and death of the King of Pop in Details magazine."Everybody in the world called me. I got 500 e-mails. I've never seen anything like it in my life," Jones said about how he learned Jackson had died. "It hurts my soul, man. It's just a lump down there."
Jones also delved into what he referred to as Jackson's self destructive tendencies, including the changes in the singer's face and physical appearance.
"Man, he was the most gorgeous guy," Jones said at one point in the interview. "But he obviously didn't want to be black."
Not everything was good between the two. Jackson would frequently make outlandish excuses for his changing looks to Jones, such as having "blisters on my lungs."
On top of that, Jackson had an affinity for keeping odd pets around, including a large boa constrictor named Muscles who once bit Jones' daughter, Rashida, on the hand. Perhaps getting bit by the King of Pop's snake is good luck though, since Rashida Jones did go on to achieve fame as an actress on shows like the Office.
Still, Jackson and Jones remained very close over the years. Yet, despite their long friendship, Jones has no plans to attend Jackson's funeral next week. "No, not at all, not at all. Because it's going to be, like, 9 million people there, and it's not what I want to see."
