Tony Awards host handpicked by CBS for the presentation.
Hot off hosting the Tony Awards, Neil Patrick Harris is about to do yet another hosting gig—this time the Emmy Awards.
According to the Los Angeles Times blog "The Envelope", Harris has been selected by CBS—his current employer—to emcee the small screen awards show.
The move comes on the heels of his show-stopping performance during the telecast of the Tony Awards in June. According to the Los Angeles Times and Daily Variety, CBS executives were so impressed with Harris's performance—including a rendition of the song "Tonight" written for him by Tony winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman—that the Emmy slot was offered to him, and by all accounts he accepted.
The Emmy snag is just the latest notch in a years-long belt that has seen him reemerge on the small screen as Romeo Barney Stinson in "How I Met Your Mother," as well as a series of critically acclaimed roles on the Great White Way, including a turn opposite Anne Heche in "Proof" as well as the controversial musical "Assassins."
In 2005 and 2006, Harris was himself a contender for the coveted Emmy for his portrayal of Stinson. He lost twice to Jeremy Piven of "Entourage" fame.
