Pritzker Prize Awarded
In architecture, 61 year old American Thom Mayne has won the 2005 Pritzker Architecture Prize. The Pritzker, architecture's Nobel Prize, is a prestigious award that honors the best in the field. Mayne is the first American in fourteen years to win the award and follows in the footsteps of American great Frank Gehry, designer of the Guggenheim Museum, and Danish designer of the Sydney Opera House, Jon Utzon. Mayne has enjoyed a full career spanning thirty years in which he has designed everything from schools to restaurants in locations as varied as South Korea and Austria.
As part of the Pritzker Prize, recipients receive a bronze medallion and a $100,000 check. The prize was established by the Pritzker family to honor architects that produce works that are significant contributions to humanity.
