17,500 free tickets to Jackson’s memorial to be given away in random drawing
Michael Jackson’s promoter, AEG Live, announced Friday that they will be giving away free tickets to the star’s memorial service at the Staples Center—which is owned by AEG—via a random internet drawing, according to BBC News. 11,000 tickets to see the memorial live will be given away in the drawing, and an additional 6,500 will be given away to attend a simulcast of the service that will take place at the Nokia Theatre across the street.
People.com reports that the registration for the drawing will end on Saturday at 6 p.m., and the winners will be notified on Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Those attending will be required to pick up and wear wristbands, a system that is being implemented in attempt to prevent issues with scalping.
Cara Mia DiMassa wrote in an LA Times blog that the beyond the wristband system, security will not be allowing anyone without identification or tickets within the general area of the stadium. She states that “Flower Street to the east, Olympic Boulevard on the north, Pico Boulevard to the south and Blaine Street to the west,” form the boundaries of the area in which only ticket holders will be permitted. The services, however, will be streamed live on the internet so those who were hoping to see it but could not get tickets can still look on from the comfort of their own home.
