Neil Patrick Harris who plays Barney Stinson on the CBS smash comedy “How I Met Your Mother” and who hosted this year’s Tony awards is in negotiations to host yet another awards show, the Emmys.

Neil Patrick Harris, who stars on the CBS hit comedy “How I Met Your Mother” is negotiating a deal that would have him hosting this year’s Emmy awards.
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “The two-time Emmy nominee is fresh off a well-received performance hosting CBS' Tonys telecast in June, and took the stage in May for a segment at the network's upfront presentation. In April, Harris hosted the TVLand Awards, which is owned by CBS parent company Viacom.”
The 61st annual Emmy awards will air on Sept. 20 If Harris does get the gig it could be a major boost to “Mother” in the fall since it’s being moved to Monday nights as an opener to that evening’s comedy block of shows.
A Variety article then mentions just how important the ratings are for this year’s telecast are, “The pressure is on this year's Emmycast exec producer, Don Mischer, to improve the ratings and the critical reception to this year's show. Last year's Primetime Emmy Awards were widely panned for the decision to use five reality show personalities as co-hosts.”
The ratings for the Academy Awards, the MTV Awards, the Tonys, the Grammys and the Country Music Awards have all increased in their latest telecasts while ratings for last year’s Emmys were at an all-time low so this year’s show has to be a show stopper.
